Tom Lenz Creighton University Read Bio ▾

Creighton University is being recognized in the Clinic/Innovations category for its visionary leadership in embedding lifestyle medicine across both academia and clinical practice, exemplified by the establishment of the Lifestyle Medicine Clinic in 2008. Under the direction of Program Director and lifestyle medicine champion, Dr. Tom Lenz, this pioneering initiative, which remains strong today, laid the foundation for integrating lifestyle medicine into Creighton’s curriculum and clinical training. Lifestyle medicine was first introduced to Creighton University by Dr. Tom Lenz in 2001. Creighton's dedication to lifestyle medicine now spans over two decades, and they've continued to build on Dr. Lenz's vision of bringing lifestyle medicine into patient and clinical care. The 2008 clinic paved the way for a lifestyle medicine–focused residency in 2009, the launch of graduate and undergraduate programs in 2012, and community-based initiatives in 2018, including the Creighton Highlander Food Pharmacy. Dr. Tom Lenz will accept this award on behalf of Creighton University, honoring the enduring impact of these efforts on the university and the advancement of lifestyle medicine nationwide.

Loma Linda University United States: Loma Linda University Read Bio ▾

Loma Linda University is being recognized as one of the first institutions to implement the Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum—an achievement driven by the dedication of many at the university, including Dr. Karen Studer, who will accept this award on its behalf. Dr. Studer, chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Program Director of the Preventive Medicine Residency, exemplifies Loma Linda’s long-standing commitment to advancing preventive and lifestyle medicine education. Under her leadership and through the university’s collective efforts, Loma Linda has become a national leader in integrating lifestyle medicine into graduate medical training—empowering future clinicians with the knowledge and skills to deliver whole-person care and pursue certification in lifestyle medicine.

Universite Laval Canada: Université Laval in Quebec Read Bio ▾

Université Laval is being recognized as the first university in Canada to integrate the Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum (LMRC) into its Family Medicine Residency Program—an inspiring milestone for lifestyle medicine education in the country. This achievement was championed by Dr. Caroline Rheaumé, a family physician, clinical researcher, and professor in the Faculty of Medicine, who will accept this award on behalf of the university. A certified IBLM diplomate, Dr. Rhéaume exemplifies Université Laval’s commitment to advancing lifestyle medicine education. Through the university’s leadership and collective efforts, Université Laval has become a national pioneer in integrating lifestyle medicine into graduate medical training, equipping future clinicians with the knowledge and skills to deliver whole-person care and pursue certification in lifestyle medicine in Canada.

UNT Health Master's Program: UNT Health Fort Worth Read Bio ▾

UNT Health Fort Worth is being recognized for its pioneering leadership in graduate education through the Department of Lifestyle Health Sciences. Under the direction of Drs. Misti Zablosky and Debbie Gillespie, the university launched the Master of Science in Lifestyle Health Sciences and Coaching degree in 2020. This is one of the first programs to fully integrate lifestyle medicine with nationally recognized health and wellness coaching competencies. Dr. Zablosky, who serves as Department Chair, has led innovative curriculum design and community impact initiatives, including clinical tracks, digital health integration, and CME programs for healthcare providers. Dr. Gillespie, one of the first International Board of Lifestyle Medicine–certified registered dietitians, envisioned and developed the original graduate certificate, which later evolved into the master’s program, expanding awareness and adoption of lifestyle medicine across North Texas. Together, they have positioned UNT Health Fort Worth as a national model for advancing lifestyle medicine education and improving community health outcomes.

Point Loma Academic Pathway: Point Loma Nazarene University Read Bio ▾

Point Loma Nazarene University is being recognized as the first university to implement the full academic pathway in lifestyle medicine—an achievement championed by Dr. Jessica Matthews, who will accept this award on the university’s behalf. Dr. Matthews developed and directs PLNU’s M.S. in Integrative Wellness program, one of the nation’s first to integrate lifestyle medicine, health coaching, and clinical experiences in partnership with UC San Diego Health. Her leadership has embedded lifestyle medicine and health equity across multiple programs—from general education courses to PA, OT, and Nursing—creating an interdisciplinary model now emulated by other universities. Through her visionary efforts, PLNU has become a national leader in advancing whole-person health education and preparing the next generation of board-certified lifestyle medicine professionals.

APA American Psychiatric Association and

This award honors their visionary leadership in embedding lifestyle medicine into the core of psychiatric care. Under the presidency of Dr. Viswanathan and through Dr. Merlo’s tireless advocacy, the American Psychiatric Association took bold, systemic steps to formalize lifestyle psychiatry as a fundamental component of mental health practice. They launched the Presidential Workgroup on Lifestyle Psychiatry, uniting over 350 professionals, and produced a landmark 370-page resource that now forms the basis of a national lifestyle psychiatry curriculum. They also established an endowed annual lecture on lifestyle medicine in psychiatry. Through their efforts, the APA has redefined mental health education and practice, ensuring lifestyle medicine becomes an enduring pillar of psychiatric care. ACLM is proud to recognize both of their individual contributions and APA’s pivotal role in shaping the future of mental health care. This well-deserved recognition reflects their collective impact and leadership.

Lois Kolkhorst Texas Senator Lois Kolkhorst Read Bio ▾

This award honors Texas Senator Lois Kolkhorst for her visionary leadership in advancing lifestyle medicine through education and public policy. Senator Kolkhorst, along with 38 bipartisan co-sponsors, championed Texas Senate Bill 25, which was signed into law in June 2025. SB 25 promotes health and nutrition through four key initiatives: requiring warning labels on food products containing certain chemicals, expanding nutrition education for healthcare professionals and students, increasing physical activity in public schools, and establishing the Texas Nutrition Advisory Committee to guide state-specific nutrition guidelines. Through this landmark legislation, Senator Kolkhorst has set a bold example for integrating the principles of lifestyle medicine into policy, education, and community health—earning the Special Recognition Award in the Government category.

Ed Noffsinger, PhD Ed Noffsinger, PhD Read Bio ▾

Dr. Noffsinger was awarded this for being a pioneer in group medical visits, creating the Drop-in Group Medical Appointment (DIGMA) and Shared Medical Appointment (SMA) models. He has helped establish over 500 DIGMAs and SMAs internationally, across major healthcare systems such as Cleveland Clinic, St. Jude Heritage, and Dartmouth Hitchcock, among others. He’s worked at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates/Atrius Health, Kaiser Permanente Medical Group, and the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, among others. His work allows physicians to see more patients in less time, improving access, outcomes, and cost-efficiency while maintaining high satisfaction. An author of two seminal books on shared medical appointments, he is also a sought-after consultant and speaker at leading medical conferences. His expertise has been featured in Time Magazine, CNN, The Boston Globe, PBS, and The Wall Street Journal, just to name a few.

Ali Mokdad, PhD Ali Mokdad, PhD Read Bio ▾

Dr. Mokdad was awarded this for his groundbreaking work in population health, health disparities, and health outcomes. His research, especially the landmark study published 20 years ago, which explored the actual causes of death, remains highly influential and is frequently cited in the field. By building upon the seminal work of McGinnis and Foege, he emphasized the critical role of lifestyle factors in health outcomes, aligning closely with the mission of our organization. His insights continue to shape our understanding of how lifestyle medicine addresses the core health challenges we face today, making his contributions invaluable.

Koushik Reddy, MD Koushik Reddy, MD, FACC, FACLM, DipABLM Read Bio ▾
Dr Reddy is a foremost champion of lifestyle medicine within the Tampa VA, where he serves as an interventional cardiologist. He has worked tirelessly to promote ACLM’s 5.5-hour CME/CE-accredited "Lifestyle Medicine and Food as Medicine Essentials" course in his own VA hospital and throughout the national Veterans Administration system. He has been a beacon of lifestyle medicine light in an agency often not known for its innovation. His scrubs have an embroidered carrot and stent, which he points to, asking his patients to “pick one.” His passion is contagious, and he’s deserving of this recognition.

Michelle Tollefson, MD Michelle Tollefson, MD, DipABLM, FACLM Read Bio ▾
Dr. Tollefson is a professor in the Health Professions Department at Metropolitan State University of Denver where she created and oversees the nation’s very first Bachelor in Lifestyle Medicine program. This enables students to “major” in the field of lifestyle medicine. All students become qualified to take the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches exam. Many of Metropolitan State University of Denver’s students are Pell Grant recipients and first-generation students. MSU-Denver has one of the most diverse student bodies in the beautiful state of Colorado. Nearly 54% of MSU-Denver’s student body are students of color, with MSU-Denver being noted as a Hispanic-serving institution committed to serving DACA and undocumented students.

Clifford Morris, MD, DipABLM and his team at the Morris Cardiovascular and Risk Reduction Institute have enthusiastically integrated lifestyle medicine into their cardiology practice, embracing various initiatives such as facilitating group medical appointments, prescribing dietary recommendations, and allocating office space for an on-site gym where patients can exercise under the guidance of a medical fitness specialist. They bring a farmers market in their office to a disadvantaged local community. Dr. Cliff Morris and his team have advocated for the transformation of Hopewell, VA into a Blue Zone.

Lifestyle & Performance Medicine Working Group Lifestyle & Performance Medicine Working Group Read Bio ▾
The Lifestyle and Performance Medicine Working Group was chartered in 2019 with 20 core members, primarily Air Force (AF) physicians. From this working group, the Lifestyle and Performance Medicine Coalition of the Interested (COI) was created as a grassroots effort to reach Department of Defense-affiliated healthcare professionals with a mission to infuse lifestyle and performance medicine into every aspect of the Military Health System and the military population. COI membership has grown by 75% in the last year to nearly 350 healthcare professionals across the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, and Coast Guard, including Service Members and government employees. Since its inception, the Lifestyle and Performance Medicine Working Group has achieved exceptional results across the Department of Defense and beyond!
